MIHUANI - THE CANNIBAL 1992

The first time I set eyes on Mihuani (The Cannibal), he was surrounded by trees as if he were in his own environment. It was a rainy afternoon and perhaps a cold one too. There was a drop of water hanging from his chin. A drop of water that could be sweat - the result of a long run? Or it could also be saliva - coming from his immense hunger... for life.

Is it this driving hunger that feeds his strength?

If not - what is the source of his strength?

The strength of Mihuani comes from his foot. But not the foot that bears his full weight; rather, from the other foot. The one that is suspended in space - only to rip this space apart and create a new one. It is this foot that is the source of his strength.

Or perhaps it comes from somewhere else.

Could his strength originate in his sense of balance? His balance is defined by the angle between his legs - which allows him to lean forward, his hands purposefully positioned. Ready to pounce?

Mihuani - is he hunting or is he fleeing? The strength comes from his movement, suspended in time, from his foot, suspended in space, from the roughness of his dark skin. Who can pass him without noticing him? Who does not feel the power of his piercing eyes? His eyes penetrate you whether seen from a distance or up close. His eyes...

The strength of Mihuani - does it come from his inner self?

Or does it come from Sairi Forsman's?
